Sources & Standards

At ShowbizUK, our reporting is built on direct access and rigorous verification. We attend and cover red-carpet premieres, press screenings, concert and theatre performances, industry events and set visits, and we conduct one-on-one interviews with talent, creatives and executives. Wherever possible, we base our stories on official statements, broadcaster and studio announcements, publicist communications, first-hand attendance and verified social media posts. Our journalists disclose their experience signals directly in articles — if a review comes from a screening we attended or a red carpet we walked, we make that clear. For full detail on how we check facts and maintain editorial standards, please see our Fact-Checking Policy and Editorial Policy.

Official and primary sources

We draw on a wide network of authoritative sources to ensure accuracy in entertainment and celebrity journalism. The following organisations and platforms are among those we rely on regularly:

  • BBC Entertainment — the UK’s public-service broadcaster, providing industry news, listings and cultural reporting.
  • BFI — the British Film Institute, offering data, archives and expertise on film and television.
  • Ofcom — the UK communications regulator, whose rulings and research inform our coverage of broadcasting standards.
  • Official Charts Company — the definitive source for UK music, film and video charts.
  • UK Theatre — the membership organisation representing theatres across the UK, a trusted source for production news and industry data.
  • BAFTA — the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, providing awards, events and industry insight.

Regulatory and standards bodies

We hold ourselves accountable to the same frameworks that govern responsible journalism and media in the UK. These regulatory and standards bodies guide our compliance and ethical practices:

  • IPSO — the Independent Press Standards Organisation, the voluntary regulator for the UK press. ShowbizUK adheres to the Editors’ Code of Practice.
  • ICO — the Information Commissioner’s Office, overseeing data protection and privacy rights, including our handling of personal data.
  • Advertising Standards Authority — the ASA regulates advertising across all media; our commercial content complies with its codes.
  • Companies House — the official register of UK companies, used to verify corporate information about our own business and the entities we cover.

What we rely on day to day

Our daily editorial workflow depends on a mix of primary and secondary sources, each treated according to its reliability. We use the following types of information, and we always attribute them clearly in our stories:

  • Official celebrity statements and publicist statements
  • Broadcaster announcements and studio announcements
  • Streaming platform information (release dates, casting, commissioning)
  • Record label announcements and theatre/venue statements
  • Event organiser press releases and media packs
  • Verified public social media posts (from official accounts, verified industry figures and talent)
  • Direct interviews conducted by our journalists (in person, by phone or video call)
  • Press conferences and roundtables
  • Press screenings, previews and first-look events attended by our team
  • Public appearances, fan events and red carpets we cover in person
  • First-hand reviews and analysis based on attended performances or screenings
  • Credible entertainment reporting from established outlets, cross-referenced when possible

Rumours and unconfirmed speculation are never presented as fact. When we cover industry gossip or pending announcements that have not been officially confirmed, we clearly label them as such — for example, “unconfirmed report”, “rumour has it”, “according to sources familiar” — and we explain the basis of the information. We do not fabricate or embellish.

How to challenge our reporting

We take accuracy and accountability seriously. If you believe we have published an error, omitted important context, or breached editorial standards, you can raise it directly. Our Corrections Policy outlines how we handle mistakes, and you can contact us at corrections@showbizuk.co.uk. For more formal complaints about our content or conduct, please refer to our Complaints Procedure. If you wish to flag a factual issue before a story is published, or to suggest a correction that does not require a formal complaint, email our fact-checking team at factcheck@showbizuk.co.uk. We review every submission promptly and transparently.
